I recently designed this Roof Rack for a Toyota 4Runner. This design works well on any SUV.
Notes:
- I designed this rack full size for Max equipment storage.
- It's 6'6" long enough to sleep in.
- I have a Sunroof so I left a space in the cross bars. (My kids like to crawl up onto the roof through the sunroof)
- In the past I have built them shorter (behind the sunroof) which looks really smart and still holds a lot as well.
- Rack is probably under 50lbs (haven't weighed it yet)
- Rack is wide enough for full size spare (40")
- Rack has enough space for lights in the front (I can add light mounts)
- Mounts really easy and fast (On mine I utilize existing threaded holes for stock rack)
